چکیده

Abstract The aim of this paper is the presentation current state-of-the-art about determination polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and their oxidized forms originating from Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM) samples. influence SPM on health twofold. SPM, as composed small particles, dangerous for respiratory system. Additionally, a carrier many hazardous compounds, particularly PAHs. Recently, several researches focus derivatives PAHs, nitro-, oxy- hydroxy-PAHs, which are more than parent Both gas high-performance liquid chromatography with various detection techniques used to analyze both PAHs forms. Due appearance these compounds in environment, at very low level, an analyte concentration step has be applied prior analysis. If GC HPLC chiefly analytical tools analyses, spectrum procedures broad. Many proposed: classic liquid-solid extractions, including Soxhlet technique, pressurized extraction (ASE) or microwave oven (MWE) sonic supported SPE applications. However, one should remember that PAH methods solving main problem, i.e., evaluation hazard connected presence air. Thus, drawback papers found review, lack information concerning limit (LOD) makes applicability limited.

Biodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Petroleum Contaminated Soils

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a class of potentially hazardous chemicals of environmental and health concern. PAHs are one of the most prevalent groups of contaminants found in soil. Biodegradation of complex hydrocarbon usually requires the cooperation of more than single specie. In this research biotreatment of PAH (phenanthrene) was studied in a solid-phase reactor using indigenou...

Biodegradation aspects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs): a review.

PAHs are aromatic hydrocarbons with two or more fused benzene rings with natural as well as anthropogenic sources. They are widely distributed environmental contaminants that have detrimental biological effects, toxicity, mutagenecity and carcinogenicity. Due to their ubiquitous occurrence, recalcitrance, bioaccumulation potential and carcinogenic activity, the PAHs have gathered significant en...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitro-PAHs and related environmental compounds: biological markers of exposure and effects.

Lung cancer caused by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitro-PAHs and related environmental agents is a major problem in industrialized nations. The high case-fatality rate of the disease, even with the best supportive treatment, underscores the importance of primary lung cancer prevention. Development of biomarkers of exposure and effects to PAHs and related compounds is now underway a...

Multimedia Model for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and Nitro-PAHs in Lake Michigan

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contamination in the U.S. Great Lakes has long been of concern, but information regarding the current sources, distribution, and fate of PAH contamination is lacking, and very little information exists for the potentially more toxic nitro-derivatives of PAHs (NPAHs). This study uses fugacity, food web, and Monte Carlo models to examine 16 PAHs and five NPAH...

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in livers of California sea otters.

Concentrations of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in livers of 81 adult female sea otters collected along the California coast in 1992-2002. Concentrations of summation operatorPAHs in livers of sea otters were in the range of 588-17400ng/g lipid wt (mean: 3880ng/g, lipid wt). On a wet weight basis, the concentrations ranged from 17 to 1430ng/g (mean: 146ng/g). Overall,...
